How Many Pennants to Order for Your School

Ordering custom felt pennants for a school is mostly an exercise in counting the people you want to reach and then adding a margin for the ones you forgot. Order too few and the spirit store sells out in the first home game. Order too many and boxes sit in a supply closet until graduation. A short formula keeps you in the right range.

This guide walks through the five buckets that drive quantity, gives you a size-to-quantity table by school enrollment, and explains where the 25-piece minimum and per-pennant pricing fit in. Our standard 9"x27" felt pennant is the workhorse for schools, with mini 4"x9" pennants common for giveaways.

The five buckets that set your quantity

  • Enrollment. Decide what share of students you want to be able to reach. A first-time order often targets 15 to 25 percent of enrollment rather than every student.
  • Fans and families. Parents, alumni and regular game attendance add demand well beyond the student count. Add roughly one pennant per two enrolled students for family demand.
  • Giveaways. Open houses, new-student nights and recruiting events move mini pennants quickly. Budget 50 to 200 minis depending on event size.
  • Retail and spirit-store stock. If you sell pennants, hold enough inventory to cover two to three home games before reordering.
  • Spares. Add 10 percent for damage, gifts to visiting teams, and the box that always goes missing.

Add the buckets, multiply the subtotal by 1.10 for spares, then round up. Because our minimum is 25 pennants, even a small club or single grade level can place a real order.

Suggested order quantity by school size

The table below assumes a standard 9"x27" pennant as the main item, a modest mini-pennant giveaway count, and a first or second order rather than a saturated campus. Treat it as a starting point, not a ceiling.

How pricing changes the math

Per-pennant cost falls as quantity rises, so the difference between 100 and 250 pieces is smaller per unit than it looks. Across sizes and decoration methods, pricing runs roughly $4 to $16 per pennant at our 25-piece minimum, with larger runs landing toward the lower end. If your budget is fixed, tell us the dollar figure and we will work backward to a size and quantity that fits.

When to split the order

Many schools place one standard-size run for walls and the spirit store, plus a separate mini run for giveaways. Splitting lets you reorder the fast-moving size without paying for the slow one. Because lead time is 2 to 3 weeks from an approved mockup, plan the first order six to eight weeks before your season opener or open house.

Choosing for your order

Start with the people you need to cover, add a 10 percent spare allowance, then round up to the nearest sensible production break. Our minimum is 25 pennants, lead time is 2 to 3 weeks from an approved mockup, and pricing runs roughly $4 to $16 each depending on size and decoration. Tell us your enrollment and intended use and we will suggest a quantity and a per-pennant price before you commit.
