Custom Pennants for Fundraisers and Boosters
Custom felt pennants are one of the cleaner fundraisers a booster club or PTA can run. The unit cost is low, the perceived value is high, and the inventory does not spoil, so unsold pieces carry over to the next game instead of going in the trash. With a 25-piece minimum, even a small program can start.
This guide covers how groups actually sell pennants, the margin math to set a price, and a small table showing cost, sell price and profit at common quantities. The numbers below use mid-range pricing for a standard 9"x27" pennant.
Where the money comes from
Pennants sell best where fans are already in a buying mood. The reliable channels are home games and tournaments, concession and merch tables, school open houses, and alumni or reunion events. A mini 4"x9" pennant priced as an impulse item moves volume, while a standard pennant carries a higher ticket for serious fans.
- Game-day table. The single highest-volume channel for most groups.
- Pre-orders. Collect orders before you print to guarantee you clear cost.
- Bundles. Pair a pennant with another spirit item to raise the average sale.
The margin math
Profit per pennant is simply sell price minus your landed cost. Because per-pennant cost falls as quantity rises, ordering more lowers your cost and widens your margin, as long as you can sell through. The table below shows a standard pennant at three quantities, a typical sell price, and the resulting profit per unit and per full run.
| Quantity | Cost per pennant | Sell price | Profit per pennant | Profit on full run |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 25 | $9 | $20 | $11 | $275 |
| 100 | $7 | $20 | $13 | $1,300 |
| 250 | $6 | $20 | $14 | $3,500 |
Numbers are illustrative; your exact cost depends on size and decoration, which run roughly $4 to $16 per pennant. The pattern holds in every case: larger runs cut unit cost and lift total profit, provided you have the audience to sell through.
Setting the sell price
Round numbers move faster at a busy table. A $20 standard pennant and a $10 mini are easy to make change for and easy for a parent to justify. Keep the price consistent across the season so buyers do not wait for a markdown, and reserve any discount for end-of-season clearance.
Reducing the risk
If you are nervous about sell-through, run a pre-order. Take orders and payment first, then place a single production run for the confirmed count plus a small spare allowance. Our lead time is 2 to 3 weeks from an approved mockup, and the free mockup arrives in 24 to 48 hours, so a pre-order window of three to four weeks fits comfortably before your event.
Choosing for your order
Pennants work as a fundraiser because the cost per unit is low and the perceived value is high. Order at the 25-piece minimum or higher to lower your unit cost, set a round sell price, and sell at games, concerts and reunions. Our pricing runs roughly $4 to $16 per pennant and lead time is 2 to 3 weeks from an approved mockup. Send us your art and target margin and we will quote the run.
